Installing an upgrade from the website

NOTE: You must have the first installation done from the CD before you can install the upgrade.

1. Find out which SfW version you have installed on your computer by starting any of the SfW applications. Once the application starts, you'll see both the application and it's start-up window (Paper Chart Maker in our example). The software version in use is mentioned under the application name. If the software version is the same as the version on the website, you already have the latest version in use and there is no reason to upgrade it.

2. If the software version is no older than 2.3, you can start downloading the upgrade files. In case you have an older version, it is quite possible that you also have an older operating system (other than Windows 2000/XP/Vista) and not enough memory (at least 256 MB RAM) to run newer SfW version. In that case we recommend not to upgrade SfW. If you have had some problems with your current SfW version, try first find the answer from this website or our Discussion Forum. If you need more help, please contact your nearest SfW dealer

3. Move to the download web page http://www.handicom.nl/english/Symfw/upgrades.asp (copy the address and open the page in a new browser window).

4. Copy the necessary files. If you want to upgrade all the applications and libraries, copy the following:

- all the files under the title "Download Databases". PCS upgrade file is quite large, we recoomend fast internet connection for it.

- Standard.exe

- the files for the language preferred , e.g. English.

- Softlok.zip

- all the application files (Paper Chart Maker is the first one), corresponding the language you are going to use for SfW.

5. You can save files to any folder you want as long as they are on the same hard drive where SfW is installed.

6. In the example the file to be copied is EN_SfW_PCSM.EXE (Paper Chart Maker in English).

7.Copy all the files needed. You can copy several files simultaneously, the copying speed depends on the line speed you have in use.

8.Depending on the operating system and the browser used, you'll see the dialog below or something similar telling what has been copied and if the copying has been finished.

9. You can start now the actual installation. Click first 'Open'.

10.The next dialog warns you that the file is of .exe -type (executable, a programme file) and could in principle include a virus. Click OK.

11. The next dialog tells where the zipped (packed) file will be unzipped (extracted).

NOTE :E.g. if your computer's operating systrem is in English the installation path is usually C:\Program Files\Handicom\SymForWin\.

Usually you can simply click 'OK' and tehn 'Unzip'. If you know that the files needed to be installed somewhere else, click 'Browse' to choose an alternative installation path.

12.Repeat the previous steps until all the files you need have been installed.

Finally close the browser and other open applications and restart the computer.

13.Make sure that all the applications work well and the start-up dialogue confirms that the latest vresion has been installed. Make also sure that the libraries you have licensed still show all the symbols.

If the upgrade didn't work out as ecpected, contact your dealer.
