Assistant

Assistant is a communication software with a difference: it is both innovative and reliable AAC software. Assistant was developed as part of the TIDE Access project in the mid 1990s and after an extensive evaluation period was first introduced to the users in 1996 in Finland. It soon replaced many well-known AAC software. User base in Finland is very demanding. E.g. Bliss symbols are still widely used meaning that many of our clients need extensive personalised vocabularies and completely rely on their communication system only the best is good enough:

  • Reliable. Tested among users since 1998
  • Uses a separate SAPI compatible speech synthesiser.
  • Shows symbols and alphabets in any size and order on the same page if needed.
  • Shows windows which can include several pages on the screen simultaneously if needed.
  • Supports GEWA compatible Environmental Control Units (ECUs).
  • Shares a full range of different libraries with Handicom Symbol for Windows software modules.
  • Also supports most standard graphic, sound and video formats .
  • Supports switch input and is compatible with many other alternative access methods.
  • Both Full and Lite versions available.
  • Originally developed as part of the work of the European Community Project TIDE Access.
  • Benefits from the work done in the WWAAC project including Concept Coding Framework CCF.

Symbol for Windows Libraries

Assistant can be used with one or more Symbol for Windows libraries, among others: PCS, Bliss, Beta and Pictogram. These databases can be shared with SfW applications too.

Vocabularies

Because Assistant is a fully flexible AAC tool for professionals, you can either use ready to made vocabularies or build individual user vocabularies. Assistant handles as easily graphics and symbols as it does sound and video.
